It is important that planning for school starts early. Other parents of children with disabilities suggest that this means at least two years ahead.
UK link: A guide to dealing with bullying: for parents of disabled children
Developed by the UK organisation Contact a Family and Parentline Plus, this guide comprises lots of information and tips on spotting the signs of bullying, action and strategies you can take as a parent, and your child's rights. The guide was developed from (and includes) a range of stories and experiences told by parents of children with disabilities affected by bullying. Though the contacts given are in the UK, the content is universal.

Teen Time after school and vacation support
The Teen Time service will focus on supporting parents and carers to gain and maintain work or/and study commitments, through an after school and vacation support program.
Referrals can be made by contacting DADHC Information, Referral and Intake Team on 9841 9354.

Transition to School for Young Children with Special Learning Needs
A resource outlining NSW Department of Education and Training guidelines and procedures for the transition of young children with disabilities or significant difficulties in learning or behaviour, from early childhood settings (including the family setting) to school.

Critical Bridges DVD: disability inclusion in schools and TAFE
This DVD is made up of six half-hour broadcast quality programmes. Each programme explores the interests, issues, concerns and policy questions that arise at points of transition for students with disability and their families, such as pre-school to school, school to post-school and acquiring a disability in adult years. The transition processes are considered from various perspectives including people with disability, their families, education service providers, policy staff and planners.

About Me Resource
Designed specifically for families who have a child with a disability, this resource enables you to develop a ‘one-stop shop’ document about your child that brings together information about support needs, disability, likes, dislikes, strengths, family, friends, behaviour support needs, medical/health needs and communication style to name a few!
This resource will save you time and emotional energy, it will enable you to stop repeating your child’s information over and over, it will help you to provide others with a positive introduction to your child, and assist them to be consistent in their support of your child.
The cost of the resource is a once off fee of $50.00 (incl. GST) for up to 2 children.

Children with Cerebral Palsy ~ Early School Years Pack
Put together by The Spastic Centre, The Early School Years Fact Pack is designed to assist teachers, teacher's aides, students and parents to learn more about what may be helpful for children with cerebral palsy in the early years. The fact sheets provide an introduction to each topic and are not exhaustive. The needs of students should be considered on an individual basis with support from appropriate services as required.
