SIBLINGS

If you have a brother for sister who needs lots of care from your Mum or Dad, chances are you do your fair share of helping out at home too. Sometimes, you might feel like the people around you either don’t understand what your life is like, or they do but they have enough to worry about already.

But it can be really nice to talk to other people sometimes, especially if they understand where you’re coming from and can relate to what you’re saying.

On this page you’ll find links to websites that give you a chance to talk to other sibs, and there are also links to websites for kids and young people that offer great tips, games and forums that you can take part in. Sometimes, we hear great news for siblings, so keep an eye on this page – we’ll keep you updated :)

Sibling Program - Blacktown
Family Development Services is running a siblings support program for young people (13-18 years) who have a brother or sister with a special need. This is a new program in the Blacktown Local Government Area and is open to siblings from other locations.
The aim of this program is to help siblings identify and use positive strategies for living with a brother or sister who has a special need. It also aims to assist siblings by providing opportunities to connect and share experiences with others and develop an understanding of what it is like to have a special need. To learn coping skills, improve self esteem, be provided with tools to enhance communication and build stonger family relationships.
This free program will run once a week for six weeks starting February 2009. Keep checking the website for further details, or you can contact 9620-4194.
